Ramsey County Seeks Individuals to Serve on Committees

Ramsey County residents who want to have an input in their community can apply for committee positions this fall.

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners is seeking people to volunteer on various committees and boards. Here’s a list of available positions, courtesy of Ramsey County:

COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS ADVISORY BOARD members’ duties include participating in the formulation of the comprehensive plan for the development, implementation and operation of the correctional programs in Ramsey County. Formal recommendations to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners will be made at least annually concerning the plan and its implementation during the ensuing year. Minorities and individuals with an educational background in the corrections field are encouraged to apply.

COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE members act in an advisory capacity to the Ramsey County Board and the St. Paul City Council. The County is interested in finding persons who work in a health or health-related field. Applicants are being sought for at-large and District-specific positions.

EXTENSION COMMITTEE members encourage individuals and organizations to make the best use of University of Minnesota Extension resources, which include research and programming in the areas of horticulture and gardening, positive youth development and 4-H, family resource management, nutrition education, family development and community leadership and economic development.

RICE CREEK WATERSHED DISTRICT board members must be voting residents of Ramsey County and the watershed district, and may not be public officers of county, state or federal governments, except that Soil and Water District supervisors may serve as managers. The Rice Creek Watershed District includes portions of Arden Hills, Blaine, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Mounds View, New Brighton, Roseville, St. Anthony, Shoreview, Spring Lake Park, White Bear Lake and the Town of White Bear.

COMMUNITY HUMAN SERVICES CITIZENS ADVISORY COUNCIL (CAC) members serve on one of seven committees, shape policy, and share their knowledge and opinions with the Ramsey County Board. The seven committees, each representing a different population served by the Department are: Adult Services Committee, Chemical Health Committee, Children’s Services Review Panel, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Committee, Low Income Committee, Adult Mental Health Advisory Council, and Children’s Mental Health Advisory Council.

WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD (WIB) is a committee of individuals (representing business, education, economic development, labor, community-based organizations, and others) appointed by the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners and the Mayor of the City of St. Paul. In partnership with the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners, the WIB provides broad community leadership in all areas of workforce development, including development of a comprehensive countywide strategy to meet the community’s workforce development needs under the Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998. Applicants should be Ramsey County residents. Terms are staggered. Applications for the WIB and Youth Council are available by calling 651.779.5653 or info@rcwib.org.

For an application and more detailed information on these committees, call 651-266-8001 or visit the county’s website at co.ramsey.mn.us/cb/ma/volunteer.htm. All applications are due by Nov. 30, 2011.
